Are you looking for a rewarding career in Code Enforcement that will help make a difference in the lives of all Prince William County residents?  The Department of Public Works, Neighborhood Services Division is seeking a dependable, well-qualified, knowledgeable, and organized individual to fill the role of a Property Code Inspector.  This is a multifaceted position that involves the enforcement of County regulations, codes, and laws that improve the quality of life for Prince William residents and businesses. The Code Enforcement Inspectors investigate a wide variety of complaints involving property maintenance, zoning, graffiti, and illegal sign violations.  The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and have experience dealing difficult customers and conflict resolution in enforcement situations. Code Enforcement Inspectors must possess strong time management skills. Caseloads can be challenging, and inspectors are expected to maintain a high level of performance without deterioration in quality of work.  The candidate should have experience with documenting observations and capturing photographic evidence to support various types of code violations and testifying in a court of law.  Code Enforcement candidates should have knowledge and experience with entering investigative findings into a database, issuing violation notices, and familiarity with the rules of evidence.  The candidate should also have working knowledge using various computer products such as Microsoft Teams, MS Word, and MS Outlook.  The selected candidate will further the Department’s commitment to safety, team building, training, and professional development.<br><br>  As a veteran Property Code Enforcement Inspector, you will have the opportunity to mentor and train others within the department.  Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a Chief Property Code Enforcement Inspector.  <br><br><strong>ABOUT THIS ROLE:</strong><br>•    Research various types of properties and structures for zoning and building requirements<br>•    Investigates possible violations of zoning and property maintenance violations.<br>•    Documents findings and evidence within the case file database.<br>•    Communicates both verbally and in writing to citizens, businesses, and various other stakeholders<br>•    Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to ascertain proper course of action based on investigative findings<br>•    Testify before magistrates and also in open court<br>•    Will work equally as well as a team or independently<br> <br><strong>PREFERENCES: THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE…</strong><br>•    Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of code enforcement or law enforcement.  <br>•    Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County Employees, management and the general public; ability to communication effectively both orally and in writing.<br>•    Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of evidence collection, records keeping, and testifying in court.<br><br><strong>SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:<br>NORMAL WORK WEEK IS MONDAY-FRIDAY 7:30AM-4:00PM, WITH A 7.5-HOUR WORKDAY AND AN HOUR LUNCH, TOTAL OF 8.5 HOUR DAY (37.5 HOUR WORK WEEK).  SOME SATURDAY AND EVENING HOURS WORK WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THE DEPARTMENT MISSION.  </strong><br><br><strong>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong><br>•    Must possess a valid VA driver’s license & pass DMV record check.<br>•    Must attend training and obtain certification as a Building Maintenance Inspector through Commonwealth of Virginia within eighteen (18) months of employment.<br>•    Must attend training and obtain certification as a Certified Zoning Official through the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials with three (3) years of employment.<br><strong><br>ENTRY SALARY RANGE:<br>B23 / $23.67 TO $29.59 HOURLY</strong><br><br>POSITION OPEN AND CONTINUOUS UNTIL FILLED/MULTIPLE VACANCIESTo view the full classification description click here: <a href="https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/pwcgov/classspecs/1318881?keywords=code%20enforcement&pagetype=classSpecifications">Code Enforcement Inspector</a>
